Military Families

LaCoste Elementary welcomes our military families!

We aim to provide support to help ease the challenges military families face due to deployment and relocation.  Our Campus-Based Military Liaison serves as the primary point of contact for military-connected students and their families throughout the enrollment and exit process.  Part of the duties of the campus liaison is to aid in identifying military-connected students in the enrollment process with PEIMS ensuring the “military identifier” is coded, serve as the POC between the campus and military-connected students and families; determine appropriate campus services available to military-connected students and assist in coordinating campus programs relevant to military-connected students.

Introduction to our registration process

Step one is to start the registration process!  You can view the process by clicking HERE.  Once your child has completely registered, then your child will be ready to start at LCE! On their first day of school, our student Anchored4Life Team will greet them in the office and provide a welcome kit to them.  Parents/Guardians will be given a LCE Welcome Brochure and are welcome to join your child on a quick tour of the campus, provided you check-in with your drivers licenses.  The LCE Welcome Brochure can also be viewed here.  Students will meet their Anchored4Life Crew Members in the classroom.  The Crew Members will help your child with class routines and school procedures.  They also will invite your child to eat at lunch and play at recess to help with their transition.  If you have any questions, you can contact our PEIMS Specialist, Mrs. Shana DeLaGarza at 830-521-6082 x1440 or [email protected]
We know the challenges and sacrifices that come with moving to a new location, so we are excited to begin a new mentoring program partnering with the MVHS JROTC cadets. The MVHS mentors are paired up with referred LCE students with the goal being to establish rapport, build connections, and help by being a positive role model to the student. Many of the mentors have had similar experiences since they have parents in the military too. This program is for active duty military families only with children that may be struggling with the transition. Please reach out to Mrs. Rakowitz to learn more and if this program would be a good fit for your child.

Parents On Patrol Squad (P.O.P.S.)

Parents On Patrol Squad (P.O.P.S)

Parents, grandparents, and guardians are warmly invited to volunteer on campus to support teachers in the classrooms and help patrol the campus, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all students. P.O.P.s not only get quality time with their own child but also serve as inspiring role models for the entire school community. Interested in making a pawsitive difference at LCE? Contact Ms. Ortiz to find out how you can get involved! [email protected].

What is Parents On Patrol Squad (P.O.P.S)?

Parents On Patrol Squad is a volunteer-based program where parent/guardians help school safety and positive environment. They act as extra sets of eyes and ears to help ensure student safety, reinforce rules, and foster a supportive atmosphere. Volunteers are required to follow certain guidelines and background checks, to ensure safety and appropriateness. You will have to complete the volunteer training & background check found in the link above.

________________________________________

What P.O.P.S. Typically Does

• Walking through hallways or playgrounds during busy times (arrival, lunch, recess, dismissal)

• Monitoring arrival and dismissal drop off and pick up zones to help traffic flow

• Being visible presence in common areas to discourage disruptive behavior.

• Reporting incidents to teachers or administrators rather than intervening physically or disciplinarily.

• Encouraging positive interactions—greeting students, offering encouragement, being a respectful adult role model.

________________________________________

What P.O.P.S Is Not

• A group of disciplinarians: patrol parents do not enforce disciplinary consequences. They observe, report, encourage positive behavior.

• Not meant to replace school staff’s responsibilities or law enforcement when needed.

• Not a way to “spy” on students or staff, but to support safety and wellbeing

Time commitment: We have some flexible options. You can come in daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or as available. The time slots most where help would be most needed: arrival time (7:00-7:40), during lunch times (staggered 10:30-12:50), recess times (varies throughout day), and dismissal (2:50-3:30). Please give at least a two day notice of volunteering, if you are not a regular/scheduled. Your time is valued and very much appreciated.
